The Gilmer High School wrestling team honored its state champions and place winners with a new wall plaque in the Noah Harris Center, dedicated during the Area 7-AAAA tournament held at GHS this past weekend. The dedication, originally scheduled during a break in the tournament, was held while wrestling was taking place due to inclement weather.
Resident Gilmer wrestling historian, Jim Fox, spoke briefly about the program, followed by Dave Garner of ETC TV3. Helen Darnell of North Ga. Physical Therapy and Amber Davenport of United Community Bank, the two biggest sponsors of the wall, both spoke as well.
Both Rick and Lucy Harris, parents of Noah, spoke about the Gilmer wrestling tradition as well as the affect it had on their son.
Numerous wrestling alumni and parents shared anecdotes about Gilmer wrestling and its effects on their lives.
