Community Emergency Response Team also known as CERT is a nationally recognized program that teaches people how to help themselves and their neighbors in time of disaster until trained personnel arrive on scene.
Gilmer County had the privilege of holding its graduation for its recent CERT class of over 20 participants.
For the last 7 weeks participants gathered every Tuesday night to train in areas of Disaster Preparedness, Light Search and Rescue, medical operations and Fire Safety.
The cost for the class is $25 which covers the book. Upon graduation participants receive a CERT Shirt and backpack with equipment.
The CERT Program works with and is supported by the Gilmer County Fire/Rescue Department.
