FARMER’S MARKET OPENS SATURDAY MAY 25TH

The Gilmer County Farmer’s Market will celebrate its 10th anniversary this spring. The market first opened in the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church. After two years, it moved to the Farm Bureau Insurance parking lot which it out grew and then moved to its present location beside the Court House on Broad Street. The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Gilmer County and the University of Georgia.

Vendors will sign up the first time they come to the Farmer’s Market. The fee will be $5.00 for the season May 25th thru Sept. 7th. The hours will be Saturday mornings from 8 until 11. Remember that produce vendors leave as soon as they sell out, so make sure you come early. Vendors may choose to stay later than 11. Vendors should enter thru the parking lot behind the courthouse, because Broad Street will be blocked.

Again we will have the ”Ask a Master Gardener” table with information about flower, vegetable, and general gardening. The Gilmer County Garden Club representatives will also be there to assist with questions.

On June 8th, Renee Dotson from Gilmer County Extension Office will be available to hand out food safety info and a sign-up sheet for those interested in a food safety. On July 13th, Renee will be on hand to discuss pressure canning and food safety.

We look forward to a great season and support from the community for our farmers, crafters, honey growers, jelly, jam and soap makers, and other one of a kind products. Shop local!!
