GHS Wrestling Annual Mizzou Review

The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team wrapped it’s annual road trip to the Missouri Tigers Style Wrestling Camp. The Bobcats finished with 7-2 record in Duals with the two losses coming at the hands of Neosho and Jackson, each a state championship team from the host state. In the traditional tournament, held at on the last day of camp, Cameron Perry won the 132lbs weight class.
To close out the Duals day, the “Cats” claimed three straight double digit victories. The seven and two record was particularly impressive when considering that both of the “Cats” losses came via bonus points. Head Coach, Sam Snider, assessed the “Cats” performance thusly,

“We came to camp very young. We had two starters away at other camps. We had a senior possible starter at camp. We had four seniors who I do not know where they are. We had a couple of juniors unable to attend. But we have battled. Our two losses were to Missouri state champs neosho and Jackson MO. Both matches had us winning six of twelve and both came down to bonus points. We have five sophomores and two freshmen out of twelve starters and they have battled like seniors. Had we brought a full team we would have been undefeated.”

Snider also quite critical of those wrestlers who neither attend camps nor practices being held during the week at the Noah Harris Center. Snider noted that there was a significant drop in the number of participants from last year’s team, over 50 to closer to 30.

“Tough drop in numbers from the fifty we had last year and coming off of a state title. I am going to think hard about those who have not attended any thing we have done this summer. Especially when they want the glory of a state championship with out the work.”
