Uncategorized July 31, 2013
Students and Parents,
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Gilmer Middle School we would like to welcome you to our GMS family!!
Our open house will be held August 7, 2013 from 10:00 am till 6;00 pm drop in. We are “Prowling with a Purpose” here at GMS!! That Purpose is graduation and a successful future. We are looking forward to serving you and our community this year. Please feel free to contact any of us if you have questions or concerns. Please visit our web-site at http://gms.gilmerschools.com for information concerning the student handbook and required signature pages.
Below are some things that will help you get adjusted to middle school. Please feel free to visit our Parent Resource Center located in the front office for access to helpful resources.
• GMS hours are from 7:45-3:20
• Homeroom begins at 7:45.
• Students are tardy at 8:00
• Morning Drop off can be front office or lunchroom beginning at7:30
• Bus drop off will be in the back at 7:30
• Students eat breakfast from 7:35-8:00
• Afternoon Pick-up: 5th graders can be picked up at the front office location from 3:20-4:00
6th graders can be picked up at the lunchroom front entrance 3:20-4:00
• Traffic: Please stay in your car and pull all the way forward and we load a line of cars at a time. Please drop off and pick up all along the front sidewalk and not just right in front of the door. This will make traffic flow better and not get clogged up. If all parents try to pick up at 3:20 there will be a traffic jam that could create safety issues. Please try to stagger your pick-up times: Students can be picked up before 4:00 with NO Charge!! If you are after 4:00 we recommend you register your child with the Boys and Girls Club for after care by contacting Jan Day @ (706)-276-2582.GMS does not offer aftercare.
• Change of Destinations for your child need to be handwritten and signed by a parent or guardian for your child’s safety. Students can deliver the hand written message to the homeroom teacher during homeroom and the homeroom teacher will verify and write out the change in destination form. If there is an emergency you can call the school and make an emergency destination change over the phone at (706) 276-5030. Change in destinations will not be made after 3:00 so please make sure you try to do that in a written form.
Thank you!!
