Oakland Academy Charter School held an informational meeting Monday night in regards to an update of what OACS has been doing with the possibility of the charter school opening in the future.Chairman of the Board Isaac Lassiter stated that there are several options that the OACS have to choose from:

1. No longer peruse OACS.
2. Look more broadly at what they are doing (a change of board members).
3. Continue the search for a facility which can happen financially.
4. Go back to the Gilmer Board Of Education to pass OACS Charter.

Currently what appears to be a stumbling block for the charter to be granted is the lack of a facility. OACS is currently weighing out the possibilities of finding a facility with the help of Bill Pierce, a broker from Coldwell Banker.

1. Find an existing school
2. Find a commercial builder who refabs and will allow payments to be made.
3. Find bare land. That includes having to create the infrastructure (roads and utility lines)

Once OACS secures a facility and the charter petition is approved OACS can accommodate up to 285 children from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade with the possibility of maximizing at 495 students within 5 years.

OACS is intending to go to Atlanta to the Charter Commission next spring. If approved OACS hopes to open the school August 2015.
