Veterans Day Activities in Gilmer County

Local civic clubs, schools and the Gilmer Nursing Home are observing Veterans Day activities. Below is a list of Veteran’s Day activities.
The annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner sponsored by the Rotary Club of Gilmer County is Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Ellijay First Baptist Church fellowship hall at 164 Dalton St. The speaker will be U.S. Navy Capt. Charles M. Walker (ret.), a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. All veterans are invited to attend and do not have to make reservations. For more information, call (706) 276-4804.

The Ellijay Lions Club breakfast, parade and program on Monday, Nov. 11, will have a theme of “What Price Freedom?” The breakfast for all veterans is at the First United Methodist Church and begins at 9 a.m., and no reservations are required.

Parade formation starts at 10 a.m., and the procession will start at 10:30 a.m. and U.S. Navy Commander Howard Gunther (ret.), from Ellijay will serve as grand marshal. The parade will finish on the square. A community chorus will perform. There will be a helicopter flyover as part of the observance. Call (706) 635-7189 for more information.

The annual Clear Creek Middle School Veterans Day program with patriotic music and song will be held in the gymnasium on Monday, Nov. 11, at 1:45 p.m. All veterans are invited to attend and will be recognized.

Gilmer Nursing Home’s annual program to recognize its resident veterans will take place Monday, Nov. 11, at 3 in the afternoon.

The community chorus will be performing on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Ellijay Elementary School auditorium at 7 p.m., and veterans in uniform get free admission.
