Mountain Community Chorus directed by Laura Stooksbury and assistant director Dr. John Wayman, is preparing for its upcoming Christmas concert. Performances are Friday December 6th 8:00 PM and Sunday December 8th at 3:00 PM at the Hilda D. Glenn Auditorium, Young Harris College, Young Harris GA. MCC is a 501 C3, non-profit organization. MCC, a thirty nine year old organization, is comprised of 50 auditioned and dedicated singers representing the mountain communities of North Georgia, Western North Carolina, and Eastern Tennessee. The popular chorus, performing at Young Harris College, attracts singers from as far away as Ellijay, GA to Copperhill, TN, and Topton, NC.
This year’s concert reflects the mystery and miracle of the birth of Jesus and the promise of peace that His birth gives to the entire world. Featured music includes Giovanni Pergolesi’s “Magnificat,” excerpts from “Christus,” by Felix Mendelssohn, as well as works by Bach, Handel, John Rutter, Randall Thompson, Donald Fraser, and David Wilcocks. The concert’s music ranging from classical to traditional to contemporary is sure to instill in all the magical wonder and promise of peace that defines the Christmas season.
