Updated: Gilmer County Schools Will Have Normal Schedule on 1/8/14

From the Gilmer County Schools: For Wednesday, January 8th – In speaking with EMA Services, primary roads are clear for safe travel, and temperature should be the only concern. With that information, we will be holding school on our normal schedule.Gilmer County Schools update from the GCSO:

Gilmer County Schools will be CLOSED on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014. Faculty/Staff report at 10:00 a.m.

Per Gilmer County Schools: All activities/sports are canceled for Tuesday, January 7th as well.

Based on extreme temperature concerns, students will NOT report on Tuesday, January 7th. Faculty/Staff are to report at 10:00 AM, as EMA believes most roads should be accessible by that point. If employees feel they are unable to make it safely, they are to contact building level administration directly.

We will still hold the BOE Work Session at 5:30 tomorrow evening.

FYI for employees of the Gilmer County school system:

We have just received word that all Gilmer schools will be closed for Monday, January 6th. No faculty members will be reporting. Teachers, please watch your email for upcoming info regarding Tuesday as decisions are made. ALL GHS ACTIVITIES ARE CANCELLED FOR MONDAY (including any and all volunteer practices).

Also the Dalton State College-Gilmer Center will delay opening until 12:00 p.m. on January 6, 2014. Conditions will be reevaluated for evening classes.

All state highways have been salted by the DOT, secondary county roads have scattered areas of black ice reported. We advise you to please use caution, reduce speeds, and increase your following distance, as well as being especially careful over bridges and overpasses.

A winter weather advisory continues into Monday across north and NW central GA for likely icy roads and light snow accumulations of 0.5-1.5 inches in the far north. Cannot rule out an isolated 2 inches for some higher elevations. Please use extreme caution if you must be out on the roads!

In addition be sure to check your propane tank level and call your provider if it is low. Keep your pets indoors and remember to look in on neighbors. Stay warm.
