GCSO Reports Busy Last Half of June

Sheriff Stacy Nicholson reports that the last half of June has been a very busy time period for the Sheriff’s Office. In addition to an elevated call volume due to the time of year, the Sheriff’s Office has investigated several serious incidents in the last couple of weeks.

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, deputies responded to a reported attempted rape which occurred in the North Orchard trailer park.
The circumstances of the investigation revealed that this was not a stranger/unknown suspect but rather a family member of the victim. As a result of the investigation, warrants were obtained for JUAN BAUTISTA, charging him with Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit Rape. BAUTISTA fled the area, so the Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service to help apprehend him. JUAN BAUTISTA was arrested by the Marshal Service on June 27th in Union County, Georgia.

On Thursday, June 26, 2014, deputies responded to a call where a person had been stabbed in the Old Pine Way area of Roberts Ridge Road. The victim in this case sustained significant injuries from the stabbing and was transported to Erlanger Medical Center. The investigation revealed this incident was not a stranger-to-stranger and was domestic in nature. Detectives have identified all individuals that were present. At this time, the investigation is still ongoing and an arrest is expected.

On Friday, June 27, 2014, deputies and Detectives responded to a reported kidnapping and attempted rape of a female. The alleged victim reported that she had been abducted by three (3) individuals on Holt Bridge Road and taken to a location off of Big Creek Road where the individuals attempted to rape her. After initiating the investigation and interviewing the alleged victim, it was determined that this was, in fact, a fabricated story. The alleged victim, KINMA HOPE STOVER, admitted she had made the story up and was subsequently arrested and charged with False Statements.

On Sunday, June 29, 2014, deputies responded to a report of a person stabbed at a resident on Luke Quarles Road. The investigation revealed that this also was a domestic related incident. It was determined that two (2) individuals ultimately sustained injuries from knives; however, both injuries were relatively minor. At this point, TONY ANTHONY GRINDLE, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Battery and was arrested in the evening hours of June 29th. It is very possible that other charges could be filed in this case at a later time.

Sheriff Nicholson stated,

“It is pretty standard for this time of year that our call volume increases with the normal everyday type complaints, however, the significant nature of these specific incidents has made for a very busy summer so far.”
