Dr. John Edward Griffin, M.D: Obituary

Dr. John Edward Griffin, M.D, age 82 of Cherry Log, Georgia passed on Monday, January 12, 2015, at his Residence in Cherry Log, Georgia. Born November 27, 1932 in Woodford, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Leonard and Myrtle Davis Griffin. Dr. Griffin was a graduate of Anadarko High School, Class of 1950 in Oklahoma, then continued his education at the University of Oklahoma where he received his Doctorate of Medicine. He practiced as a general surgeon in Knoxville, Iowa and at the V.A. Medical Center in Hot Springs, South Dakota before retiring in Cherry Log, GA. Dr. Griffin was a member of the Cherry Log Christian Church and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn “Katie” Vandeveer Griffin of Cherry Log, GA, daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Chris Horacek of Marietta, GA, Lori and Phil Lee of Sammamish, WA and Nancy Griffin Garrison of Decatur, GA., grandchildren, Maggie, Kailey, Christopher and Alyssa Horacek, Benjamin and Joshua Lee, Ian and Michael Garrison.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday January 17th, 2015 from the Cherry Log Christian Church with Dr. Trisha Senterfitt, Dr. J. David Griffin, Dr. Fred B. Craddock and Rev. William Thompson officiating. Interment will be in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Cherry Log, GA
