Drug Bust In Gilmer County

Gilmer Sheriff’s Office Detectives, Deputies, and Drug Task Force Agents executed a search warrant on April 2, 2015 at a residence on Knight Ln. in the Gunstock Creek area of Gilmer County. At the conclusion of the warrant, two people were arrested. Michael Jones and Sharon Jones, both of Ellijay, were arrested on 26 total felony counts, including trafficking methamphetamine, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of firearms during the commission of a felony, theft by receiving of two stolen firearms and theft by receiving of a stolen truck and a stolen camper.

What started as a simple request for assistance by Jasper Police Department turned into a serious and rather large drugs and stolen property investigation. After being requested to look into some information that a Glock pistol that had recently been stolen in Jasper was in possession of someone in Gilmer County, Gilmer Detectives started beating the “proverbial bushes” and ultimately obtained enough probable cause to write a search warrant for the stolen Glock along with another firearm. When the Sheriff’s Detectives and Deputies executed the warrant at Jones’ residence, they realized they had MUCH more than a simple stolen gun. Detectives identified a stolen truck and a stolen camper, which had been stolen out of Gilmer County. There were multiple firearms which are suspected to be stolen in addition to the two specified that were listed in the search warrant. Also, 65 grams of methamphetamine and a good quantity of controlled pills were located. Detectives also seized approximately $4,500 in cash which was located in a container with individually packaged drugs and scales.

Sheriff Nicholson states,”the work that was done by my entire Detective office, specifically Det. Dan Farnham and Det. Scott Camp, was exceptional. Further, the careful execution of this potentially dangerous search warrant is the prime example of professional, trained and experienced law enforcement officers doing….what we do. I’m proud stolen property was recovered and almost 3 times the amount of meth required for a trafficking charge is off the streets and not in the hands of anyone’s kids.”

The investigation will continue and more charges and other arrests are likely.
