The Gilmer High School Bobcats baseball team avenged an early season 10-0 loss at the hands of the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes with a 3-1 home victory. The defensive battle didn’t see a run score until the bottom of the second inning, when Dalton Stephens drove in Noah Wilson with an RBI single that put the Bobcats up 1-0 going into third inning.
The Bobcats increased the lead in the next inning. Noah Wilson walked to load the bases, and Noah Ralston walked immediately afterward, scoring Dylan Hatcher.
The Bobcats’ lead ballooned to 3-0, when Chad Watkins scored on an overthrown pick-off attempt at first base.
Gilmer held onto the shut out, until one run scored in the top of the seventh. The defense held up, thanks in no small part to two strike outs by starting pitcher Mayson Carver, allowing the Bobcats to secure the 3-1 victory. Carver pitched all seven innings with six strike outs.
