CHECK IT OUT! – June 4, 2015
Heath Lee, Gilmer County Library Branch Manager“Every Hero Has a Story” is this year’s exciting 2015 Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme. SRP lasts throughout the summer, and all participation and events are totally free. Be sure to bring children of all ages to the Gilmer County Library to sign up for SRP and pick up an events brochure. We will host a variety of performers and events throughout the duration of our SRP that you will not want to miss. We give away prizes for signing up, reading books and have Grand Prize drawings. Call the library for full details.
Our 75th Anniversary Celebration will be held June 25 & 26. More details to come.
Children’s Programs
Our SRP Kick-Off event will be June 4 at 4:00 PM. BB Fuzz will be the performer for this kick-off. BB combines music, dancing, and rhymes to create a truly hilarious show.
Nancy Fangles Balloon Lady
Thursday, June 11 @ 4:00 PM
Join the fun with Nancy and watch her create some amazing balloon art. Fun for the entire family. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Young Adult Programs
Our SRP Teen programs start at 3:00 PM on June 8. Stop in and ask for a list of our teen SRP events brochure and game board.
Would you like a chance to win a new GoPro White? Then come and participate in our Summer Reading Program. You do have to sign up and read some books to have a chance to win. A very big thank you goes out to the Friends of the Gilmer County Library who graciously donated this awesome prize for our teens.
Adult Programs
SRP is not just for kids. Adults are encouraged to also share in the fun of summer reading. We will give away several gift bags full of cool things at the conclusion of SRP. Call the library for full details.
Dude, what’s wrong with my plant?

For the final program of the Master Gardeners of Gilmer County Spring Series, Gilmer County Extension Office Agent Eddie Ayers will assess plant or pest issues with your failing plant.
Beginner Excel
Wednesday, June 10 @ 10:00 AM
Learn the basics of using Microsoft Excel. We will cover things such as: what you can do with Excel, how to create a file, and modify data to suit your needs. An active library card is required and registration is recommended.
Lunch and Learn Knitting & Crocheting
Wednesday, June 10 @ 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit, come for the fun! If you are unable to attend a meeting, that’s ok. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color. If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color.
The Friends of the Library Bookshelf
No one could spin a better tale than Robert Parker and this week the Bookshelf is offering a large collection of his works. Also featured are other great reads for guys by David Baldacci, John Grisham, Tom Clancy and James Patterson. Whether you’re adding to your own collection or choosing a gift you’ll find a gem to take home.
Take a look at the “last chance” shelves where our inventory of half-priced books is refreshed weekly. You can put your payment for these books in the donations box if the Bookshelf is closed.
Bookshelf hours are from 10:30-5:00 on weekdays and from noon-2:00 on Saturdays
