DDA Set to Finish Boardwalk Project

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is at the finish line of the Boardwalk project.However, there is not a set final cost yet, according to Chairman Robinson, due to the Authority returning excess supplies and finalizing a few minor touches on the project. The estimate currently stands close to $32,000.

In a meeting on June 17, the DDA spoke about the City Council’s amendment to pay for $27,000 of this project, the DDA decided upon the approval of up to $5,000 out of their fund balance to cover the rest of the cost.

As a part of this, they also approved a motion to pay the $27,000 in case the city council decides to deposit the money into the DDA’s accounts. They approved this so that the entire project and its costs could be handled by the DDA instead of the Council. Though this has not actually happened, this motion is simply to cover the Authority as they were currently unsure how the city was going to handle the approved $27,000.

Additionally, the DDA is selling tags to put in the planks of the finalized boardwalk to help fund-raise for the next steps of the project, which Mr. Robinson has previously stated could involve lighting, plants, seating, and other miscellaneous additions. These tags are set, pending a finalization of negotiations on cost, to be sold to the public at $25 for a 3 inch by 1.5 inch tag that will be engraved with a person’s name or a family name and set into the boards at the edge under the railing.
