Mr. Arthur MacDougall Love, III (Art): Obituary

Arthur MacDougall Love, III (Art), 68, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born, May 5, 1947 in Jackson, Alabama to the late Virginia Allen Love and Arthur MacDougall Love, Jr. He was surrounded by his Beloved wife, Lynda Gay Wright Love married over 42 years, and his children, Courtenay Jane Love and Arthur MacDougall Love, IV (Mac) and grandson Brenner.

Art lived the majority of his life in Anne Arundel County, Maryland with his family. He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, the University of Baltimore, the Graduate Program at University of Florida and University of Baltimore Law School. He was heavily involved in Young Republicans and YAF in his youth, followed by over 30+ years in Conservative politics holding a variety of political positions in support of Agnew, Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and many others. He was mainly active in Virginia Republican politics as well as Maryland, DC, and several Republican National Conventions.

After enlisting in the Army in 1968, he worked for the Federal Government for over 30 years. Starting under Richard Nixon as a GS 7 in the National Registry of Historical Places. He then moved, over the years, to various posts including; Office of Environmental Policy, PHWA, Department of Transportation; Congressional Affairs in ACTION; Executive Director at the Consumer Product Safety Administration; Deputy Assistant Secretary at OERI, US Department of Education (Political Appointment); USAID; Director of ARMS, US Department of Education; Director of OBEMLA, US Department of Education. President Ronald Reagan elevated Art to the Senior Executive Service where he rose to the highest levels.

Art had many different hobbies including gardening, boating, competition shooting (rifle, shotgun and pistol). His main passion, however, was reading all genres of books, but mainly History.

He is also survived by his sister Nancy Allen Love, brother Christopher Blake Love and nephew Christopher Blake Love Jr. The family will be following Art’s wishes that he be laid to rest at his wife’s family burial location in Torbay, England. His wife, daughter and son will take his ashes there later this year.
