Proverbs 23:10-14. “Do not move an ancient landmark or enter the fields of the fatherless, for their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you. Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge. Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod he will not die. If you strike him with a rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.”
O God, you have given us the lines of life that are not to be crossed except at our own expense. If we move a landmark to take someone’s property, you have promised justice for the offended party. The Redeemer is strong and will bring the case against us. If we move the lines of theological belief from their biblical foundation, we will suffer the consequence of creating our own bible. Should we move the lines of moral truth, we will crash ourselves on that truth.
Help us to receive the instruction of your word and give that instruction to our children. In discipline may we always administer it in love and never in anger. May our children receive enough correction to feel safe and to keep them from a corrupt life.
Thank you, Lord, for the way that you correct us. Your gentleness is filled with grace. Bless this person who now prays with the joy of being in your will. In Jesus name we pray.
Amen.
