The Gilmer County Library will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Family Storytime

“Royal Wizards and the Court Jester”– Is our weekly theme with associated stories and crafts about being a princess. – All ages with adults are welcome.

My First Book Club
Tuesday, September 8 @ 4:00 PM
Dragon Slayer’s Academy: The New Kid at School by Kate McMullan. For children in grades 2-4. Drop by the library before the meeting to pick up your reading packet. Read the book before the meeting and come prepared to discuss the book with other children. Kids 9 and under with adult supervision please.

Lapsit Storytime

“Royal Wizards and the Court Jester” – Lapsit is a fun way to encourage early literacy by including books, songs, rhymes, and physical activity for ages 1 to 3 years with a participating adult.

Lego Club
Saturday, September 12 @ 2:00 PM
Does your child like building with Legos? Most kids do, so bring them to the library to create their masterpiece. We then display their creations until our next month’s meeting. As always, participation is free and available to any child. Adult supervision is required.

Think coloring is just kid’s stuff? Think again! If you’re looking for stress relief, a boost to your creative juices or just a minute of downtime with friends, then you should join us Tuesdays in September from 2PM-4PM. Coloring sheets, pencils, crayons and markers are provided. You supply a youthful and creative spirit

Lunch & Learn Knitting
Wednesday, September 9 @ 12:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit or crochet, come for the fun! If you are unable to attend a meeting, that’s ok. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color. If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color.

GCGSI Monthly Program
Thursday, September 10 @ 2:00 PM
The speaker this month’s Gilmer County Genealogical Society meeting will be Steven Purvis. Mr. Purvis will talk about the importance of the local pharmacist when communities lack local doctors.

Creating With Hyper Tufa
Saturday, September 12 @ 10:00 AM
This workshop will be held outside at the DIG. All are welcome to participate in this educational program. Optional: For a fee that covers the cost of materials, attendees can take home a hyper tufa container. You may sign up at the Gilmer County Extension Office or at the Saturday Farmer’s Market held beside the county courthouse.

The Friends of the Library Bookshelf

If you are interested in your family’s history, you’ll love our selection of genealogy books featured at the Bookshelf this week. Many of these are hard-to-find or expensive titles – come take a long and learn more about your past.

If you are not already a Friend of the Library, please join us next time you come into the Bookshelf. Memberships start at only $10.00 and contribute to buying new books (including E-books) for the library’s collection. You’ll enjoy the monthly newsletter, special events, and will be the first to know about the collections we put out each week.

Bookshelf hours are from 10:30-5:00 on weekdays and from noon-2:00 on Saturdays.
