Mr. Horace Ellington passed away Friday September 11, 2015 at his residence. Horace was born on October 5, 1927 in Newton County. His parents were Grover and Marie Ellington. Horace attended School in Oxford, GA and almost two years after he and Johnnie married Horace was in a serious automobile accident and lost his left arm at the shoulder and had serious brain damage. After 2 years of recovery Horace was determined that he would never ask for sympathy or be considered disabled and he was determined to work and being raised on a farm he decided to have a Rolling Store and built a successful business for approximately 30 years; Horace was an animal and wildlife lover and would take bread and sweats from his Rolling Store to feed animals that were stray and hungry. Then went to work for Bio Lab in Decatur, GA and retired after the company sold out 15 years later. In 1994 he went to work in Conyers, GA as a door greeter for Walmart and when he moved to Ellijay in 1999 the manager at Walmart in Conyers called the manager in Ellijay and said he wanted to transfer this man with one arm that does better than any of the healthy. Mr. Ellington’s wife of 64 years describes Horace as a man of few words until he sees a hungry animal or a mistreated animal.

Graveside services will be held Monday September 14th at 2pm from the Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington, GA with Rev. Norris Nash officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2pm until 7pm at the funeral home.
