Rev. Luther Burgess, age 93, of Ellijay, GA, died Tuesday September 29, 2015.

Rev. Burgess was born May 9, 1922 in Gilmer County, son of the late Harvey and Myrtle Starks Burgess. He was a member and Deacon of the Pleasant Gap Baptist Church and a Licensed Baptist Minister. He was a retired carrier for the US Postal Service and a veteran serving with the US Army in WWII. Rev. Burgess is preceded in death by his wife, Effie Davis Burgess.

Survivors include: sons and daughters in-law, Rev. Roger and Linda Burgess, of Ellijay, GA, Wayne and Barbara Burgess, of Ellijay, GA; brother, Ed Burgess, of Ellijay, GA; sisters, Betty Jean Sanford, of Ellijay, GA, Kathie Banks, of Ellijay, Johnnie Ann Gaskill, of Thomaston, GA; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held Friday October 2nd at 2pm from the Pleasant Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Junior Luttrell, Rev. Lamar Beason and Rev. Russell Burt officiating. Music will be by the Clayton Family and the Melody Singers. Pallbearers will be Eddie Burgess, Bernabe Vasquez, Joey Davis, Brandon Linthicum, Matthew Burgess, Bradley Burgess. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Gap Baptist Church with Military Rites by the North GA Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Wednesday September 30th from 4pm until 9pm and all day Thursday October 1st until 9pm at the funeral home.
