Mr. Richard Lamar Abernathy, age 71 of the Buckhorn community, Ellijay, Georgia passed on Sunday evening, October 18, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Abernathy was born August 9, 1944 in Ellijay, Georgia to his late parents Linford Jeptha and Hattie Oleeta Weaver Abernathy. Richard was a member of Flat Branch Baptist Church and loved hunting and fishing. He graduated from Gilmer High School, Class of 1963, and was self employed as a tobacco distributor to country stores.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margie Logan Abernathy of the home in Ellijay, GA; Son and daughter-in-law Barry and Beverley Abernathy of Ellijay, GA; Grandchildren, Chassady Abernathy and Emma Abernathy, both of Ellijay, GA; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 from the Chapel of Logan Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Hensley and Rev. Edwin Weaver officiating. Music and vocals will be by Lowell Davis and James Jones. Graveside interment will follow in the Flat Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Harold Plumley, Ronnie Weaver, Lowell Davis, Elijah Davis, Lynn Dillard, Mitchell Davis, Jamey Plumley, and Vernon Gibbs will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at the Logan Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable, or donations may be made to the Flat Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Winston Cantrell at 2723 Big Creek Road Ellijay, GA 30536 in memory of Mr. Abernathy.
