This week’s theme is “Build a Snowman” January’s story themes are all about the cold bite of winter. All ages welcome. Story time and Lapsit are excellent ways to strengthen your children’s literacy skills, and all stories are always followed by a simple craft you can complete with your child.

Tween Advisory Board

GCL is starting a TWEEN Advisory Board (for grades 3rd-6th) to help us learn what kids like and are interested in. We will brainstorm ideas about future programming and other activities you want to see happen at your library. Kids 9 and under with adult supervision.

My 1st Book Club

Fabulous Furoshiki is the functional art of Japanese fabric folding traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods. We will be making a shopping bag and you get to take it home.

Lunch & Learn Knitting
Wednesday, January 13 @ 12:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit, come for the fun! It’s OK if can’t come to all the meetings. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color.  If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color. This is a “drop in when you can” event.

Joyce Southern Bennett – Local author of two books “Streams of Gold” and “Beyond The Hill”. She writes about her childhood growing up in Gilmer County in the Big Creek/Stover Mountain area. She will be discussing her books and her life in Gilmer County.

 

The Friends of the Library Bookshelf

More great reads for your favorite comfy chair binge time.  The half price special on fiction continues this week with more popular authors including Fern Michaels and Nora Roberts.

If you’re not already a Friend of the Library, please join us next time you come into the Bookshelf.  Memberships start at only $10.00 and contribute to buying new books (including E-books) for the library’s collection.  You’ll enjoy the monthly newsletter, special events, and will be the first to know about the collections we put out each week.

Bookshelf hours are from 10:30-5:00 on weekdays and from noon-2:00 on Saturdays.
