Two more victories for both the Gilmer High School Lady Cats and Bobcats tennis teams came handily this week, as Gilmer swept both the Southeast Whitfield Raiders Wednesday and the Towns County Indians yesterday, by margins of 5-0.

In boys singles matches at home against Southeast Whitfield, Riley Hice downed Anthony Pazo 6-0, 6-0. Issac Hensley picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Landon Eaton, while Dusty Ray shutout Miquel Pimentel 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles boys action featured Cole Edmondson and Chandler Cantrell coming back to best Porter Johnson and Josiah Hasty 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 and the combination of Matthew Bruner and Noah Chastain defeating Cameron Bell and Cody Bishop 6-2, 6-3.

The girls singles matches featured Ally Davis winning a hard-fought 6-2, 9-7 affair over Ally Stanley. Kali Malham beat Cristina Limas 6-2, 6-0, while Hope Bobak downed Gabby Ortiz 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Doubles girls matches saw Hannah Thomas and Chancey Davis defeat Yocelyn Flores and Alonda Lopez 6-0, 6-2 and the duo of Katie Sheahan and Lauren Cole besting Lauren Allen and Allison Kountz 6-0, 6-0.

“The match with Southeast was a fairly, evenly-matched fight,” said head GHS tennis coach Donna Parks. “Our players overcame some tough times in their matches, to pull it together and come out with a win. When I see that kind of determination and dedication, it is inspiring.”

Pro-8 sets dominated the match at Towns County. Boys singles matches ended with Hice winning 8-0, Hensley picking up a 8-2 win and Ray earning an 8-1 win.

Doubles boys matches resulted in an 8-4 victory for Edmondson and Cantrell and Bruner and Chastain triumphing 8-2.

In an exhibition match, Carter Hice picked up an 8-1 win.

Girls singles matches featured both Davis and Bobak picking up 8-0 shutouts, while Katie Marick garnered an 8-2 victory.

Doubles girls matches gave both Thomas and Davis, as well as Sheahan and Cole, 8-1 wins. Exhibition girls doubles matches saw Abigail Cantlay and Moriah Martin fall 8-6, Mary Elizabeth Walker and Sophie Morrison winning 8-5 and Sheahan and Cole playing once more, taking an 8-0 win in the process.

The wins leave the Bobcats at a perfect 7-0 (2-0 in region play) for the year, while the Lady Cats are currently 6-1 (2-0 in region play) for the year.

Gilmer will face a difficult region schedule next week, thanks to inclement weather that forced numerous reschedules in February. GHS will host Heritage Monday and Lafayette Tuesday, before traveling to Cartersville Wednesday. The Bobcats will then host non-region action against Creekview Thursday, while the Lady Cats will travel to Canton to face Creekview.
