The Gilmer High School tennis team completed three matches in as many days last week, picking up a home region win against the Lafayette Ramblers last Tuesday in the process.

The Bobcats bested Lafayette 3-2, while the Lady Cats fell 4-1.

In boys singles match, Riley Hice picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Issac Hensley won 6-4, 6-2, while Dusty Ray earned a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Both doubles matches went to the Ramblers. Cole Edmondson and Chandler Cantrell fell 4-6, 4-6, while Matthew Bruner and Noah Chastain dropped their contest 3-6, 2-6.

A boys exhibition match went to Carter Hice, 6-4.

The lone Lady Cats victory against Lafayette came from Ally Davis, who picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win. Kali Malham fell 0-6, 3-6, while Hope Bobak lost 2-6, 3-6.

In girls doubles matches, Hannah Thomas and Chancey Davis fell 5-7, 4-6, while Katie Marick and Katie Sheahan dropped their affair 2-6, 3-6.

In exhibition girls play, Lauren Cole fell 6-4, 5-7, 3-10, while Sophie Morrison won 6-2, 6-0 and Moriah Martin picked up a 7-6, 6-1 win. An exhibition girls doubles match was won by Mary Elizabeth Walker and Abigail Cantlay, 6-3, 6-3.

The action only intensified last Wednesday at Cartersville. The Bobcats suffered their first defeat of the year, 4-1, while the Lady Cats fell 5-0.

Riley Hice dropped his match 6-4, 3-6, 1-6, while Hensley garnered the only Gilmer victory of the day with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win. Ray dropped his contest 0-6, 1-6.

Boys doubles matches saw Edmondson and Cantrell fall 4-6, 1-6, while Bruner and Chastain dropped their match 1-6, 0-6.

Carter Hice dropped an exhibition contest, 5-8.

Ally Davis, Malham and Bobak all lost 0-6, 0-6 in girls singles matches. Thomas and Chancey Davis dropped their affair 2-6, 1-6, while Marick and Sheahan lost 1-6, 3-6.

Martin and Cole teamed up for an exhibition girls doubles match, falling 5-8.

A split match took place the following day against Creekview. The Bobcats got back into the win column with a 4-1 home victory, while the Lady Cats fell 5-0 on the road to the Lady Grizzlies.

Riley Hice picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory, while Hensley bested his opponent 6-0, 6-2 and Ray garnered a 6-0, 6-3 win.

At Creekview, Ally Davis fell 0-6, 1-6, while both Malham and Bobak dropped their respective matches 1-6, 2-6.

The girls doubles matches against the Lady Grizzlies ended with a 1-6, 2-6 loss for Thomas and Chancey Davis and Marick and Cole falling 1-6, 1-6.

An exhibition girls doubles match ended with Walker and Martin dropping the contest, 3-8.

The Bobcats are now 9-1 (3-1 in region play) for the year, while the Lady Cats currently sit at 6-4 (2-2 in region play). Gilmer will get heavy into 515 action this week, as Fannin comes to town today and GHS travels to Pickens tomorrow for a region match. A non-region match at Cherokee awaits Wednesday, before Gilmer resumes region play Thursday at Northwest Whitfield.
