Denver Broncos offensive lineman Max Garcia spent the majority of last Friday in a classroom at Gilmer High School.

The brother-in-law of GHS math instructor Sandra Garcia, Max Garcia came to answer questions from students and offer advice on decision making. His appearance made perfect sense, because Sandra Garcia teaches a class called “Advanced Mathematical Decision Making,” or AMDM for short.

“I was giving them advice and tips that would help them see their future,” Garcia said. “I was in their position not too long ago and I know how the process is. How tough making certain decisions will be. So that’s really what I wanted to communicate to them.”

The 24-year-old Norcross native played college football for the University of Florida, before being drafted by the Denver Broncos as the 133rd pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, Garcia started five games and played in 16, en route to the Broncos Super Bowl crown in February.

Now, Garcia is enjoying the offseason and says he was thrilled to address students at GHS.

“The kids are fun, just like when I was in high school,” Garcia said. “They’re full of questions, even if they’re a little timid about asking them at first. It was fun, because they are genuinely just curious about what I do, what a typical day in my life is like. I could tell they are good kids. They interacted well with me and each other. It was awesome.”
