Gilmer Track Qualifies 15 for Sectionals

After the two-day Region 7-4A meet at Southeast Whitfield High School Monday and Tuesday, a top four or better finish guaranteed 15 Gilmer High School track athletes a slot at Sectionals.

The Bobcats placed fourth at the meet, by scoring 74 team points. Meanwhile, the Lady Cats finished fifth, with 65 points.

For the Gilmer boys, Carson Masenthin qualified by winning the 300-meter hurdles, recording a time of 42.46. He also finished eighth in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 57.44.

Andrew Edmondson qualified by winning the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:02.89. Carson Masenthin and Edmondson also joined the 4×400 relay team of Griffin Cagle, Edmondson, Kell Kiker and Carson Masenthin to qualify, by winning the event with a time of 3:38.18.

Kell Kiker qualified by placing second in the pole vault, reaching a height of 11′. He also placed eighth in the triple jump, with a leap of 37′ 9 1/2″.

Carlos Cruz qualifed by placing third in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:06.05.

Luke Stolz qualified in two events, turning in a third-place time of 10:22.96 in the 3,200-meter run and a fourth-place time of 4:46.33 in the 1,600-meter run.

Alex Stolz qualified by placing fourth in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 10:24.59. He also finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run, posting a time of 4:49.34.

Other athletes adding to the team score included Cagle placed fifth in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.94. He also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 24.49.

Austin Masenthin finished seventh in the pole vault, with a height of 9′ 6″. The 4×100  relay team of Cagle, Kell Kiker, Austin Masenthin and Carson Masenthin finished eighth, with a time of 47.11.

The Lady Cats featured Lauren Bentley qualifying in the high jump, by winning with a leap of 5′. She also qualified for the 200-meter dash, by turning in a fourth-place time of 28.89.

Raven Sparks qualified in both the shot put and discus throw, with respective third-place finishes of 31′ 2″ and 94′ 8″.

The 4×400 relay team of Bentley, Katie Kiker, Grace Pleasant and Carolina Teague qualified by posting a third-place time of 4:23.81. Teague also finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, posting a time of 53.71, while Pleasant finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run, recording a time of 14:08.08.

Raiven Pierce qualified by placing fourth in the pole vault, reaching a height of 7′. Karla Cantrell qualifed by placing fourth in the triple jump, recording a leap of 29′ 5″, while Rowe Fowler qualified in the 100-meter hurdles, by posting a fourth-place time of 17.69.

Other Lady Cats that added to the team score included the 4×100 relay team of Bentley, Olivia Thompson, Katie Kiker and Teague finished fifth in the event, by recording a time of 55.09. Olivia Thompson finished eighth in the triple jump, with a leap of 27′ 10 3/4″. Katie Kiker finished eighth in the 800-meter race, recording a time of 2:40.03.

The Sectionals will be held at Carrollton High School April 30.
