The 10U Gilmer County Parks and Recreation Reece baseball squad struck early and often last Tuesday, downing Richard 8-3 in four innings.

A one-out, inside-the-park home run from Jaxon Merrell got the offense started for Reece in the bottom of the first. Austin Weaver then drew a walk and came around to score on a throwing error. Later with two outs and the bases loaded, starting Richard pitcher Dawson Caviness recorded a strikeout to keep the deficit at 2-0.

Richard benefited from a one-out from C.J. Hatchett, as Blane Banks tripled to cut the Reece lead in half. Starting Reece pitcher Kolby Reece then induced a lineout and strikeout to dampen the Richard comeback effort.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second, Robert Maddox, Merrell, Ryan Smith and Zachary Dutton all scored on either walks or wild pitches. A strikeout finally ended the frame, with Reece ahead 6-1.

Caviness got a run back for Richard in the top of the third, with an two-out RBI double that plated Lennon Criswell. However, a third out prevented Richard from implementing more damage.

Another two-out scoring opportunity was cashed in by Reece in the bottom of the third. Maddox smacked an infield single that scored Brayden Teague. After Merrell was hit by a pitch, Teague scored on a wild pitch to widen the Reece lead to 8-2. A strikeout then got Richard out of the inning.

Banks gave Richard hope in the top of the fourth, smacking a triple that scored Hatchett. However, Kolby Reece rounded out his complete game by garnering three straight strikeouts to end the frame and the game was called due to time constraints.
