Visitors and enthusiasts of the Gilmer County Parks and Recreation walking trail will now have a new place to stop and enjoy the scenery of the Ellijay River, as family members of Billie Louise Lamore Adams collaborated for a surprise birthday present: a bench placed at the park, in her honor.
Her family thanked the GCPRD for assisting them with the surprise, which included the park and rec informing the family which type of bench to buy to match other benches already in place and then installing the bench in concrete for them, free of charge. The bench sits just past the Veterans Memorial at the head of the trail and is the only bench on the trail that faces the river.
Billie Louise Lamore Adams is seated in the middle of a throng of family and friends. The 90-year-old Gilmer resident had a special bench placed in her honor on the GCPRD walking trail, which was revealed to her yesterday during her birthday party at the park.
