Rev. Carl E. Owenby, age 92, of Talking Rock, died Monday August 22, 2016.

Rev. Owenby was born February 9, 1924 in Gilmer County the son of the late Harve and Neta Sutton Owenby. He worked at Pickens Foot Wear, was a member of the Talona Baptist Church, and Blaine Lodge # 534 F&AM. Rev. Owenby began his ministry in 1959 and for 56 years served as pastor for numerous churches in North Georgia.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Bertie Craver Owenby, daughter; Shirley McArthur, Talking Rock, son and daughter-in-law; Larry and Monona Owenby, Columbus, 4 grandchildren; Michael McArthur, Crisanna Hayes, Marcus Owenby, Matthew Owenby. 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00pm from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper with Rev. Joey Philips, Rev. Wallace Parks, Rev. Harold Mull and Rev. Tim Hyde officiating. Interment will be in the Antioch Church cemetery with graveside rites by the Blaine Lodge#534 F&AM.

The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 1pm until 10pm and Wednesday from 10am until 10pm at the Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper.
