Gary R. Johnson, 57, of Ellijay, formerly of Cobb County, passed away January 21, 2017 at his home here on the Cartecay River after a lengthy struggle with a number of health issues.  He was preceded in death by his Mother, Gilda Leigh Johnson, in June, 2014.  He is survived by his Father, Joel R. Johnson; his sister, Marsha Johnson, and her partner, Tessa Bowers, both of Waleska; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He had at one time been employed as a Travel Coordinator with the Coca-Cola Company of Atlanta and from this experience he later traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad.  He was a collector of antiques and shared this interest with his Mother, leading to many happy days of searches and “finds” together.  Among his other interests was the gift of being able to create and design interesting and beautiful displays of floral designs.

Gary was a fun and interesting individual and he will be greatly missed.  May he rest in peace.

A Memorial Service will be held at Oakhill Methodist Church in Ellijay, Georgia on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Victor Morgan officiating.  The family will be receiving family and friends at 10:30 a.m.
