The rising Gilmer freshmen, along with their parents, finally got their first high school impressions as they attended Monday’s, March 6, orientation.

The meeting consisted of explanations about new schedules, the new process of enrollment, scheduling, and its effectiveness. The meeting also included a showcase of different extra-curricular activities and classes.

The evening began with Principal Carla Foley introducing the students to their new schedule options and how each would be selected for their personalized schedule. Assistant Principal Tiffany Boyette and the three counselors, who further developed the information about how freshmen would enroll into their classes, walked the students through the enrollment and class choice process.

The Enrollment System will offer each student a very personalized schedule which will consist of 4 to 5 classes that will continue through the entire year. The students are divided among counselors by last name. They will also be able to keep their same counselor throughout all four years in High School.

For the upcoming class of 2021, there will also be a variety of options of extracurricular activities through clubs and sports. Among those available were WBL(Work Based Learning), LEO Club, G.E.A.R.S, Interact Club, the Environmental Club, Yearbook, Football, Film, Robotics, and FGE (Future Georgia Educators). Members and advisors of the clubs and sports were excited to inform the students of the availability and responsibilities of every club.

An overall productive night drew the new freshmen into their High School careers with a sense of direction, opportunity, and excitement. As they begin their transitions into the new school, their orientation will serve as a foundation for their coming year to build on.
