The winner of Miss Transcontinental and Miss Congeniality

On May 27th, 2017 Miss Hannah McSwain of Ellijay, GA was awarded the title of Miss Transcontinental at
the 2017 Transcontinental Pageant held from May 23-28 in McDonough, GA. The mission of the pageant
is to celebrate and embrace the diversity, lives, and causes that the women from all over the world are
passionate about with the motto of “Beauty that inspires”.

The Transcontinental pageant was an international pageant with delegates from North America, Greece,
Hong Kong, Africa, South Africa, and the Ukraine. Hannah McSwain represented “Miss North America”.
Hannah and the delegates were given the opportunity to site-see in Atlanta through touring of the
Georgia Aquarium, Skyview Atlanta, Atlantic Station, and World of Coke.
“I am extremely grateful for this experience,” says Miss McSwain, “the chance to meet women from all
around the world who are dedicating their lives to helping others and simultaneously working in
powerful positions such as CEOs, lawyers, and executives has been truly inspiring. The opportunity to
represent the title of Miss Transcontinental is an honor and I will do everything I can to encourage more
youth, specifically girls, to pursue an education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.”

Hannah is also a Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, where she has led over 1,000 people
before graduating high school. She has danced for the past ten years training in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and
Contemporary. Hannah will be attending the University of North Georgia in the fall to study Computer
Science.

What makes The Transcontinental pageant unique is that each delegate was required to present a
forum presentation on a topic that mattered to them which accounted for a large part of their total
score. Hannah presented her forum on why more girls should be involved in STEM.

In addition to winning the title of Miss Transcontinental, Hannah also won Miss Congeniality and was
recognized for receiving the highest score out of all contestants for her forum presentation.

Growing up in a small town, Hannah had little exposure to what careers were available to her through
STEM and had it not been for the mentorship of those who did pursue STEM careers, she most likely
wouldn’t be pursuing the future she has chosen to pursue. She hopes to lead by example and use the
title of Miss Transcontinental to help inspire others that they can overcome their challenges and achieve
more than they thought possible.
