Obituaries

Mr. James Leo Garland, age 87 of Ellijay, GA passed Thursday evening, July 13th, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Garland was born September 24th, 1929 in Whitestone, Ga to his late parents William Fin and Laura Lavenia Martin Garland.  He was a graduate of Pickens High School, Class of 1946, and served honorably in the United States Army.  James worked as an insurance agent with Continental Life and Casualty and American General Life Insurance companies for over 35 years.  He is preceded in death by his son, Terry Garland and sister Shirley Garland Wood.

Survivors include his sister, Janice Mosley of Whitestone, GA; brother Harold Garland of Marietta, GA; grandchildren and in-law, Jessica and James Hardie, Matthew Garland and Jacob Garland, all of Holly Springs, GA; great granddaughters, Grace Hardie and Noelle Hardie, both of Holly Springs, GA; companion, Pat Thomas of Ellijay, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, July 16th, 2017 from the chapel of Logan Funeral Home with Min. Butch Jones and Rev. Larry Reece officiating.  Music and vocals will be by Irene Wofford and George McClellan will serve as the bagpiper.  Graveside interment will follow in the Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery with Barry Wood, Garry Mosely, Walden Martin, C.L. Garland, Scott Garland, James Thomas, Bob Worley and Michael Jones serving as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from 2pm until 7pm on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at the Logan Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable, or donations may be made to the Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Deryl Hyde, 53 Cripple Creek Lane, Ellijay, GA 30536 in memory of Mr. Garland.
