Gilmer High honors classmate with week-long plans

ELLIJAY, Ga. – Those who are familiar with the story of Zane Gayton may have already heard about the tragic end, but for students of Gilmer High School, the end is not yet here.

According to a post online, the days and their meanings are:
Monday: Purple for his participation in the GHS Band;
Tuesday: Blue, Zane’s favorite color;
Wednesday: Red for heart awareness;
Thursday: Black for GHS Bobcats; and
Friday: White for hope.

Even that is not enough for these students fondly remembering their classmate. There are plans on Friday to move to the band’s practice field in order to host a “balloon release.” The release is scheduled for 3 p.m.

This is not the first attempt to honor Gayton though. Earlier this month, Zane Day was held to honor the student as well as help the family through the situation. Selling tickets for a drawing for a special basket, those involved were able to get numerous members of the community as well as businesses all over to support the function by donating items and certificates to the basket.

Coming together, Gilmer continues to show the pride and love through another situation laid upon it. Raising funds to help the family with medical expenses have turned into aid and care for the family and now plans to remember Zane in the coming week.
