Bobcats Bitten By The Bulldogs

Team FYN Sports

The Bobcats recognized six young men on Senior Night for their dedication to Gilmer High School and Bobcat Baseball.  Family, friends and coaches alike looked on with appreciation and at the same time sadness in seeing these seniors high school careers end and their futures begin.

Saying farewell to Bobcat Field as they lined up one last time were Bradley Thomas, Brooks Rosser, Eric Turner, Garrett Martin, McKinley Chadwick and Will Barnes.  Each of these young men deserve a big congratulations for not only their baseball accomplishments but more importantly their academic achievements in the classroom.

As for the game, things didn’t bid well for the Cats. Emotions were running high from the pregame activities and excitement for the last home game of the 2018 Bobcat baseball season.  Senior Will Barnes took to the hill for the Bobcats and set down the Bulldogs of Trion over the first two innings of the game.  The Bulldog hurler started the same and continued throughout to stiffle the Bobcat batters.  Gilmer was held to just four hits on the day and scoring only two runs.  Leading the way at the plate for Gilmer were Seniors Brooks Rosser, Eric Turner, and Will Barnes each with one hit .  Sam Nicholson also had one hit on the day.  Will Barnes and Eric Turner are credited with an RBI each accounting for the two Bobcat runs.

The Bulldogs put 18 runners on the base pads with 12 crossing the plate. The scoring for Trion came in the third with 3 runs, fourth inning with 6 runs and added three more in the sixth inning nailing down the 12-2 victory over the Bobcats and dampering Senior Night and all that comes with it.

Next up for the Cats of Gilmer will be at Fannin Co. as they face the Rebels in a rescheduled game from earlier in the season.  Game time is scheduled for 5:55 pm.
