Cleo Young Thompson McDaniel: Obituary

Mrs. Cleo Young Thompson McDaniel, age 88 of Ellijay, GA, passed on Sunday morning, July 29th, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. McDaniel was born December 16th, 1929 in Ellijay, GA to her late parents, James Grady Young and Jessi Lillian Ponder Young.  She was a member of Whitestone Baptist Church for over 60 years. Cleo retired from Gilmer Nursing Home in 2014 where she worked for over 40 years as a CNA, and in 2011 was awarded the CNA of the Year for the State of Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Thompson and Joseph McDaniel, son, Ronnie Thompson, and grandson, Andy King.

She is survived by daughters, Linda T. King of Jasper, GA, Patsy T. Davenport of Ellijay, GA; son & daughters-in-law, Rev. James & Flondell Thompson of Jasper, GA and Vicki Holloway Thompson of Ellijay, GA; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Rev. Marvin & Debra Young of Blue Ridge, GA and Ruth Young of Ellijay, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 31st, 2018 at Whitestone Baptist Church with Rev. James Thompson, Rev. Paul Young, Rev.  Michael Young, and Rev. Joseph Young officiating. Music and vocals will be by Brian Rittenberry and Anita Dotson.  Graveside interment will follow in the Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery with Bobby Thompson, Heath Thompson, Doug Lofland, David Gibson, Michael Jordan, Corey Thompson, Cody Thompson, Andy Beck, and Palmer Sanford serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Gibson, Jackson Jones, Sawyer Thompson, and Ryan Lofland.

The family will receive friends from 3-8pm on Monday, July 30th, 2018 at the Logan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Deryl Hyde at 53 Cripple Creek Drive Ellijay, GA 30536 in memory of Mrs. Cleo.
