The Gilmer County Lady Cats are off to their best start in five years, with their only loss so far this year coming against the Pickens County Dragonettes.

Last week, the Lady Cats played in two region games against the Lumpkin County Indians and the Dawson County Tigers. Gilmer was able to best them both, beating Lumpkin County five to two and Dawson County six to four.

Isabella Chastain appeared on the mound for the Lady Cats in both games and was a menace, striking out seventeen total batters over the two game stretch. In the game against Lumpkin, she allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out nine, and in the game against Dawson she allowed seven hits and four runs over seven innings while striking out eight.

Maddie Rosas-Wright and Taylor Elliot collected multiple hits for Gilmer against Lumpkin while Macy Hamby was able to hit a ball into the grass and beat out a double.

The Dawson game did not come as easily for the Lady Cats.

The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when Jasmine Staley doubled on a 0-1 count and scored the go ahead run.

All in all Gilmer saw the ball well against Dawson, racking up ten hits in the game. Staley and Mackenzie Taylor each had multiple hits in the game. Staley led both teams with four hits in four at bats.

Gilmer was not given any freebies against Dawson, as Dawson did not commit a single error in the field.
