The Gilmer County High School Lady Cats (10-1, 8-0) beat both White County and Cherokee Bluff this week to move to ten and one overall and extend their winning streak to nine games.
Entering the week, the Lady Cats were on a 6 game winning streak with their only loss on the year coming in their second game of the season against Pickens County.
At the end of the week, the Lady Cats are still riding that winning streak.
In their first game of the week against the White County Warriors (7-5, 6-3), Isabella Chastain was the MVP, pitching seven innings while only allowing four hits and one run while striking out nine White County batters. In the first inning of the game against White County Macy Hamby hit a sac fly and put Gilmer on the board first. White County hit a homer in the top of the fourth inning tying things up. Mackenzie Taylor ended up scoring the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth inning. Maddie Rosas-Wright went two for three at the plate to lead Gilmer in hits and also went 11-11 in the field.
In the second game of the week, the Lady cats faced off against Cherokee Bluff (3-9, 3-5).
The second game of the week was over quick, fast and in a hurry, as Macy Hamby collected seven RBI’s in the 16-0 three inning victory.
Hamby went two for three at the plate with a triple and a home run. Hamby also came on in relief of Isabella Chastain on the mound striking out 2 of the three batters she faced.
Chastain pitched two innings and only allowed two hits and zero runs while striking out four batters.
Gilmer will play North Hall in a region game tonight at six at home.
