GCSO issues urgent shelter in place warning

UPDATE: Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office released a statement in regards to the incident that occurred earlier this afternoon:
“Deputies responded to a call in the area of Rogers Creek Rd and Pleasant Gap Circle where a male subject was making threats of Suicide. Upon arriving in the area, deputies saw the subject in a wooded area. Shortly thereafter, a shot was fired in the direction of the deputies. Deputies tracked the subjects movements to a vehicle which was on a ‘logging road.’ The subject was obviously armed with a firearm. An approximate 1 1/2 hour stand off ensued until the subject ultimately exited the vehicle and surrendered. He will be medically and mentally evaluated and will be charged with aggravated assault on a Peace Officer, as well as other charges.
We appreciate the cooperation of residents in the area staying as clear as possible so that we could do our job. The subject was taken into custody without incident.”
GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office has released the following statement:
“If you’re in the area of Rogers Creek, pleasant Gap, or White Pine Circle please shelter in place until police presence has left.”
Allegedly, there is an altercation occurring with a violent individual and police.
Weapons may be involved.
Please avoid the area at this time.
