PRESS RELEASE – On March 25, 2025, Corporal II Clayton Hughes and Deputy Blake Heptinstall went above and beyond the call of duty.
Responding to an ATV accident in a rain-swollen creek, they found the vehicle overturned with the driver trapped inside and in imminent danger of drowning.
Without a second thought, Corporal Hughes jumped into the frigid water to keep the victim’s head above water while Deputy Heptinstall worked to ensure the rescue effort was safe and successful until Fire/Rescue arrived.
Because of their quick thinking and selfless actions, a life was saved that day.
Sheriff Stacy Nicholson proudly presented both deputies with the Medal of Merit – an honor reserved for extraordinary acts of bravery and service.
Please join us in congratulating and thanking Corporal Hughes and Deputy Heptinstall for showing what it truly means to wear the badge.
