Bobcats Fight Hard, Fall 42–28 to Northwest Whitfield

ELLIJAY — The Gilmer High School Bobcats battled all four quarters Saturday but came up short in a 42–28 loss to Northwest Whitfield at Huff Mosley Stadium. The defeat drops Gilmer to 3–2 on the season.
Northwest Whitfield’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Senior quarterback Gavin Nuckolls threw for 340 yards and five touchdowns on 10 completions out of 15 attempts. He also ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on six carries, keeping the Bobcats defense on its heels. Wide receiver Kade Mitchell was a key target, hauling in 178 yards and three scores, while Zirous Davison added a 61-yard touchdown reception.
For Gilmer, the offense produced highlights of its own. Junior running back Douglas Callihan rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Senior quarterback AJ Callihan threw for 89 yards and a touchdown and added 8 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Senior running back Peyton Chancey contributed 71 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, and senior receiver Hunter Britain led the passing game with 53 receiving yards on three catches.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats showed determination throughout the high-scoring affair. The team now looks to regroup and prepare for their next matchup against Heritage on October 3.
