ELLIJAY, Ga. — A 19-year-old Ellijay man faces sexual extortion and invasion of privacy charges following a Georgia Bureau of Investigation cybercrime investigation into the alleged sextortion of a woman.

The Ellijay Police Department requested assistance from the GBI on Friday, Sept. 4, in investigating the alleged sextortion, according to authorities.

Victor Henry Vicente, 19, of Ellijay, was arrested Sept. 21 and booked into the Gilmer County Jail.

Vicente faces charges of sexual extortion and eavesdropping, surveillance or intercepting communications in a manner that invades privacy.

The GBI’s Cyber Crime Unit assisted with the investigation.

Authorities have not released additional details about how the alleged sextortion occurred or disclosed whether investigators have identified any other potential victims.

The case remains under investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, authorities said.
