APRIL 15 TEA PARTY OF GILMER COUNTY

Every freedom loving citizen was urged to attend the 2011 Tax Day protest rally.
Tennessee’s State Representative, Terri Lynn Weaver, and also David Weikel, Field Rep withTom Graves spoke at the Tea Party Rally held in Ellijay on April 15th.
Weaver, TN Representative from the 40th District, not only spoke to the crowd she also entertained with her guitar and a beautiful voice. Mrs. Weaver is an accomplished gospel singer and she sang for the crowd that gathered at the square in downtown Ellijay.
FYN spoke with several gathered at the Tea Party Rally to find out why they came and received various responses but the same sentiment seemed to echo among everyone we talked with- Less Government and Better Government. Mike Weaver told us he believed the Tea Party hits home and appeals to the people, not necessarily Democrats or Republicans, but just everyday people that want to see a change in our government.
Talking with Isaac Lassiter, a local citizen, he told us, “I consider myself a libertarian, being from California, but I do agree the Country is in too much debt.” Mr. Lassiter just happened to be having lunch downtown and stopped to listen for a while. We also spoke with Dan and Nancy Fitzpatrick who aren’t currently members but came intending to join the Tea Party. Eldridge Silvers said it was the first meeting he had attended and while he is in the Republican Party, he agreed with everything he heard at the meeting.
The Gilmer County Tea Party members gathered earlier and drove through town in decorated cars to rally attendance and make folks aware of the meeting. There was a good sized crowd gathered and even though it was quite windy for the event at least it “didn’t rain on their parade” so to speak.
