The rain may have pushed out the parade’s original scheduled date of July 4th but it was not going to interfere once again with the festivities on Saturday evening. With dark clouds making their way into the downtown area the Ellijay 4th of July parade began. Just moments after the flashing lights were seen and sirens heard from the firetrucks the rain fell from the sky.

But that did not stop the parade. As the rain poured Sammie Jo Hawkins, the youngest grand marshal in parade history made her way around the roundabout.

Many of the county’s emergency equipment rode through downtown Ellijay as well as the Optimist Club’s Stuff The Bus campaign.

While waiting for the fireworks the Orchard Church prepared snow cones and gave away glow sticks for everyone.

After the parade the brave spectators waited till almost 10:00 to see the sky light up with fireworks.
