The Gilmer Bobcats have done it again.

For the 18th time since 2005, Gilmer Wrestling is coming home with a state championship trophy.

The storied tradition of the Gilmer High School Wrestling program was carried on in Macon over the weekend, as they set a new record for most state placers in school history with 11. Two 1st place finishes, three 2nd place finishes, three 3rd place finishes, and three 5th place finishes helped the Bobcats bring home number 18. Juan Rafael (106lb) and Dylan Galloway (220lb) both won individual state titles in their respective weight classes. The full results can be found at the bottom of the article.

In an Instagram post, assistant coach DJ Underwood said,

“(I) Could not be more proud and blessed to spend this season with these kids and coaches and to be able to share the journey with them. The road has been long and the road has been rocky…… but it was worth it to say the for the 18TH TIME…. YOUR GILMER BOBCATS ARE STATE CHAMPIONS!!!”

With 18 Team State Championship Titles and 37 Individual State Championship Titles, it’s safe to say that the small town of Ellijay is home to one of, if not the top, high school wrestling program in the state of Georgia.

Stay tuned to FYN Sports as we are going to catch up with Bobcats head coach Josh Ghobadpoor and a few of the state placers later this week!

Up next for the Cats is an Elite Eight matchup with Murray County. Gilmer is just 3 wins away from another State Duals Title!
