The Gilmer County Lady Bobcats have started off their 2020 campaign on the right foot, going 2-1 through their first three games.

On opening day of the 2020 softball season, the Gilmer County Bobcats faced off against the Sonoraville Phoenix in a neutral non-conference game. The Lady Bobcats were able to come away with a 3-2 win, holding Sonoraville to only 5 hits.

In the second bout of the season, Gilmer unfortunately came up short against foe Pickens County in extra innings, falling 5-4. The Bobcats were able to tally 8 hits, but the team also allowed 3 errors and they were never able to overcome them.

Gilmer Sophomore Macy Hamby was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate and she also knocked in an RBI.

Macy Hamby was also on the mound for the first bout against Pickens, pitching all 8 innings while giving up 4 runs and striking out eight batters. Despite Macy’s stellar performance on the mound and at the plate, the Bobcats would go into their second game against Pickens with a 1 and 1 record, as they could not close the deal in extra innings.

In the third game of the year (second against Pickens County) the Gilmer Lady Bobcats were able to avenge their first loss against rival Pickens, picking up a 13-10 victory.

Macy Hamby led the way once again, going 3 for 4 at the plate with 4 Runs Batted In. Hamby also took the mound for 5 innings and was able to strike out 5 batters.

Senior Jasmine Staley and senior Mackenzie Taylor both knocked in 2 runs a piece and each were able to slug a double, with Staley going 3 for 5 and Taylor going 2 for 4.

Gilmer will start region play tomorrow night, kicking off a two game home stand against Lumpkin County on 8/18 and White County on 8/25.
