Book-A-Librarian

Are you wondering what to read next? Or maybe you need help getting started with your e-reader.  Do you need help researching a topic? Would you like a tour of the library? You might need to Book-A-Librarian. The Book-A-Librarian service allows you to reserve a free, 30-minute session with a librarian on Monday or Thursday between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Please call the library for more details.

Lapsit Storytime

“Castles and Knights and Dragons, Oh My!” – Lapsit is a fun way to encourage early literacy by including books, songs, rhymes, and physical activity for ages 1 to 3 years with a participating adult.

Lunch & Learn Knitting
Wednesday, August 19 @ 12:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit or crochet, come for the fun! If you are unable to attend a meeting, that’s ok. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color. If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color.

Learn to Play Hand & Foot
Thursday, August 20 @ 1:00 PM
Do you like card games? Hand & Foot is similar to Canasta. 2 to 6 people can play and you may play with a partner. A couple of local experts will be on hand to teach the basics.

The Friends of the Library Bookshelf

The Bookshelf has a wonderful set of Time Life Time Frame books.  There are 24 volumes in this set covering world history from 3000BC to the 20th century.  Eminently readable, lavishly illustrated with artwork and photos and in near mint condition, a beautiful gift or a treat for yourself.

If you’re not already a Friend of the Library please join us next time you come into the Bookshelf.  Memberships start at only $10.00 and contribute to buying new books (including E-books) for the library’s collection.  You’ll enjoy the monthly newsletter, special events, and will be the first to know about the collections we put out each week.

Bookshelf hours are from 10:30-5:00 on weekdays and from noon-2:00 on Saturdays.
