Gary Hyde’s Visit to Ellijay Elementary School

Uncategorized

The fourth graders at EES got a chance to learn about Native Americans from Gary Hyde.Mr. Hyde is a retired teacher and school board member whose hobby is collecting Native American artifacts and reproductions. Many of artifacts were found right here in our county. One of the most interesting demonstrations is the use of a blow gun to shoot a dart at a target. He explained that young boys were given blow guns very early so that they were experts by the time they were grown. Another demonstration showed how the development of the throwing stick improved hunting with a spear. We would like to thank Mr. Hyde for his time and expertise. He is always willing to share his knowledge with the students of Gilmer County.
