From Bobcat to Mountain Lion: Charles is Collegiate “Cat”

Featured Stories, Team FYN Sports

Gilmer High School stand-out senior basketball player, Joe Bob Charles, has recently signed a scholarship to compete collegiately at Young Harris next fall. He spoke with FYN about the excitement of playing on the next level. How does it feel to be a Mountain Lion?

“It feels great to be a Mountain Lion! It’s going to be an exciting journey!”

Are you the first commit for the 2014 class?

“Yes I am the first commit to YH.”

Why Young Harris? What do they offer that other schools don’t?

“I chose Young Harris because it is a great program. The past couple seasons have been phenomenal and the team is loaded with talent. The coach also had a lot to do with it. Coach Herman is a great coach and has a very strong background having assisted at high major D1 schools.”

Have you seen any of their practices or games? What do you bring to the table that will help them contend in the Peach Belt Conference?

“Yes I have seen them practice, they are a very athletic team and like to push the ball. That is the way I like to play so I should fit in perfectly. I can pretty much do whatever is asked of me; pass, shoot, defend, rebound, lead.”

Would it be safe to assume you committed so early because you really like where the program is headed and feel like you’ll fit right in with the up-tempo style of play?

“Exactly”

Thanks, we wish you the best during your senior year at Gilmer High School.
