The GACP is a 52 year old organization and the largest of its kind in Georgia. Gilmer county was the 12th county to join the program which has grown to include 159 agencies.

“I’m very proud of my entire office. Some people think that a good sheriff’s office is because of a good sheriff. It’s not, it’s because of all of the good people involved, from the secretary to the chief deputy.”

The evaluation process includes adherence and implementation of standards set by the GACP while offering departments flexibility in operations. The certification period is three years in length and requires an annual report on continuing compliance.
